Becoming the chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation seems to have gone to Asantha De Mel’s head. He did the dumbest thing by contradicting Mahela and saying that Sri Lanka rested Vaas and Murali to hide them from the Australians for the final.
He sent out an unnecessary message to the world that Sri Lanka is taking the final for granted.
Seems like the Diesel price hike and the World Cup is too much for him to take…

I was really suprised when i heard that as well... that stupid bugger should learn to toe the official line on such matters, without shooting off his big mouth and contradicting everybody...

Nope mate...Asantha is right in that matter. SL is not taking the finals for granted. If you look at the points table carefully, you'd see that a sound win by NZ in today's game against Aussies would put them in top postition, pushing Aussies to second postion. So in that case, SL will have to face the Aussies in the semi's. However, I figure this chance is bit low beacuse NZ has left out two leading players in this match. It's very much like SL's ploy. And I have seen Asantha talking in few local TV interviews, and I must say that he was direct, and brave in anything he said, unlike most of our grumpy cricket personnel. He was correct in most of the decisions he took as the president of the selection committee.
Asantha De Mel is out of Cricket. Thinking about his pocket ful of money. Now adays he does not care about Cricket thinking about money. Selecting waste guys to the team. No future planing to have find players like Jayasuriya, De Silva or Ranathunga. He takes money to keep useless unexperience guys like Jehan Mubarak.
He better be in the Oil field not more with the cricket. Otherwise the future of Sri Lankan Cricket is in DANGER.
